I am on my way to Mile Hi Con for the weekend, where I get to let my geek flag fly for three lovely days.
But, before I go, I just have to stop for a minute and thank you.
Yes you. The one reading this post. And all the people who have stopped by recently to read my other posts.
Your support means so much to me. Your comments – whether they reflect my opinions or differ from them – they always offer me new information and new perspective and THAT is priceless, precious and wonderful. That is why I exist in this space.
Salman Rushdie has a line in his book The Satanic Verses – “A Poet’s work; To name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world and stop it from going to sleep.”
I took that quote to heart when I read it over a dozen years ago. I’ve carried it with me and tried to live it ever since. It is the foundational principle behind my blog, my business, my life. But I cannot do it alone. I need you.
I need you to balance me, to challenge me, to keep ME from falling asleep at the wheel.
And sometimes I need you to cheer me, support me, bolster me when my courage fails or my faith in reason falters.
And you do. You all do. You come here, and you read my rants, and check out books I recommend and share my posts with your friend. You support me and challenge me and question me in the comments. You keep me alert, awake, alive.
I am so honored, and so humbled by your presence.
I am flabbergasted at how many of you are strangers, and at how many of you have become friends – though we’ve never met.
I am so lucky to have you all – from the old friends who haven’t abandoned me to my insanity, to the new friends who are yet to arrive…
Thank you. Thank you for being here – whether you’re a regular reader, or this is your first visit to the Think Banned Thoughts blog.
You make this possible, enjoyable and worthwhile. I only hope that I can return the favor and offer you some small moment of wisdom, or courage, or insight, or comfort. Or at least a great new book to add to your list!
